Issue 21 — HackSpace magazine gives the Adafruit Perma-Proto HAT for Pi Mini Kit – with EEPROM a 10/10 score, saying it’s a great prototyping HAT.
There are a few prototyping HATs out there for Raspberry Pi, but only this one benefits from the long-standing history and collective knowledge of the people at Adafruit. This addition to the HAT family of boards is another variant of its Perma-Proto ecosystem. It’s a well-thought-out PCB that allows for easy prototyping of through-hole and surface-mount components.
At first glance, you might think it’s just a prototyping board, but it’s more than that and very thoughtfully designed. The kit includes the PCB, a 2×20 GPIO header, and a blank 24C32 I2C EEPROM soldered on and connected to the EEDAT/EECLK lines, making development of a new HAT for your Raspberry Pi much easier.
Customise it how you like and, for this low price, you might want to consider adding a few of them (or the version without the EEPROM) to your hardware stash.
