Every Thursday is #3dthursday here at Adafruit! The DIY 3D printing community has passion and dedication for making solid objects from digital models. Recently, we have noticed electronics projects integrated with 3D printed enclosures, brackets, and sculptures, so each Thursday we celebrate and highlight these bold pioneers!

Have you considered building a 3D project around an Arduino or other microcontroller? How about printing a bracket to mount your Raspberry Pi to the back of your HD monitor? And don’t forget the countless LED projects that are possible when you are modeling your projects in 3D!

Getting a Faux Wood Finish on 3D Printed Parts #3DThursday

I love doing faux finishes. That technique can come in handy when trying to make a piece of 3D printed plastic look like wood or stone or metal.

In this Off Earth video, Darrell shows how you can achieve a pretty realistic faux wood finish by using a mid-town brown spray paint and various shades of alcohol ink pens.

The Tooth Fairy’s Wand #3DThursday #3DPrinting

The Tooth Fairy s Wand by EvoCivic Thingiverse

Great wand for aiding in Tooth Fairy hijinks. From EvoCivic on Thingiverse:

The Tooth Fairy’s wand (in case your child tries to trap the fairy and steal her wand or asks her for one when a tooth falls out). Make sure the fairy leaves them a note saying that this is a copy and the magic doesn’t work for humans as only the Tooth Fairy can make her wand work.

It’ll easily print out in a couple of hours so can be made the night it’s needed if a tooth suddenly falls out.

Logitech z623 remote control (IR & Wifi) – Hardware hack

IMG 20201123 175034

Haris on the Andrian blog shared this hack to get their sound system and tv to work nicely. Great post full of trial and error, there is a caveat at the top “Attention the following hack is performed in the hard way. Do not try this at home”

It was time to renew my TV at home with a new Samsung TV. The sad thing here is that the new TV doesn’t have analog audio jack output but digital optical and bluetooth. Using a digital optical audio output there is no option for source (TV) audio volume adjustment. If i connect my Logitech system using an optical -> analog adapter there will be no option for remote volume adjustment (as the audio system doesn’t have it’s own) which is not really handy while watching TV or movies. On the other hand using a bluetooth module reduces the audio quality in a noticeable factor using this sound system. The market trend is sound bars but as i already owned the Logitech Z623 sound system which i’m really satisfied with i didn’t want to change it. So i started thinking how i could make a remote control for the Z623 with as less as possible modifications on the factory setup.

See more and thanks for sharing!
