Insecta & Aves for the End of the World #piday #raspberrypi @Raspberry_Pi

This project from Michele Seffino on vimeo is giving us so many calming vibes:

The main purpose of this work is to stimulate a reflection on the acoustic dimension that characterizes the spaces we live in and in which we are inserted daily, with the aim to raise awareness of the importance of the sound element within the natural and artificial landscape and of the impacts that noise pollution has on human activities and animal life.

Nano Leaf Small by Lugerh Thingiverse

Lugerh shared this project on Thingiverse!

This is a simple redesign of the typical Nanoleaf based on a led strip and an esp8266 / esp32

I have not yet designed any case to the control board and a power supply, ma ahead will design some.

I used RGB LED strips (WS2812) 60 LEDs per meter (IP30 uncoated, 10mm wide)

Control of it depends on you, you can use a ESP8266 a ESP32, a generic driver … be creative!

Just designed my own Dyson V6 drill dust vacuum nozzle.I know there is a lot in the community, but every model looks a bit different. YOU should try to figure out which fits best to you.

The photographs show a two-color built. The reason for that is that I ran my light blue empty, then continued with white. It is a functional part, and not a beauty competition!

Life-Size Puzzle Coffee Table #1 #3DThursday #3DPrinting

Life Size Puzzle Coffee Table 1 by gfursu Thingiverse

Awesome to see large scale functional 3D prints. This coffee table is sure to be a conversation peice. From gfursu on Thingiverse:

The build consists of assembling in a puzzle-like manner 6 table legs that results in an aesthetically pleasing glass top coffee table.

The design provides for a tight fit, no support. Should you have challenges with the fit, it’s likely from the heated bed that might have expanded your bottom layer. If so, just file that particular area, should not need to address anything else other than the first layer. That being said, it’s intentionally a tight fit.

Focuser support for Celestron C5 by ym1964 Thingiverse

ym1964 shared this project on Thingiverse!

You need some M3 bolts with nuts.
2 M3 (8mm) bolts with nuts in the gear. You put the nuts in the gear central hole and you screw the bolts in. They will be tight on the scope shaft.
2 M3 (30mm) bolts with washers and nuts to hold the motor.
You need a small belt that you cut and glue at the right length.
And I use a commercial gear for the motor.
The cap covers the end of the scope shaft.
Many arduino projects use step motor as electronic focuser.
I used EQFocuser and I’m fully satisfied.

Workbench Dremel Bit Storage #3DThursday #3DPrinting

Workbench Dremel Bit Storage by Rogarat Thingiverse

Great organization system for your dremel set from Rogarat on Thingiverse. So satisfying when everything has a place and is ready to grab.

This is a remix of Dremel Bit Storage by MrRobot6502, thing 4166355.
When I tried to print the original on the Prusa MK3S, it curled so
badly that it lifted the magnetic sheet off the bed. But that problem
brought to light that there was a lot of wasted space below the upper
bit storage. So I ended up breaking it down the into six pieces and
added a couple of drawers in the back to use the space a bit more efficiently.

I also, as an afterthought printed 4 of the double wrench cradles to CA
glue on the back. I have several older, double ended wrenches that have
different sizes on each end and they didn’t fit the slots in the original
design. Could have put them in the drawers but, what the heck. This way
gives easier access.

Bioengineered fly trap #3DPrinting #3DThursday

Bioengineered fly trap by edison vs tesla Thingiverse

edison_vs_tesla shared this project on Thingiverse!

Bioengineered flytrap inspired by the carnivorous fly eating pitcher plant. The plant uses its downward pointing hairs to create a smooth slide on which insects slip to their death, but find it difficult to get out. I designed this CAD model with hairs that can be 3D printed. These 3D printed hairs function to keep the fly in the trap in the same way as the pitcher plant.

The parts are designed to be used with a lot of different cup sizes. Apple cider vinegar and a little dish soap works great to attract the flies. This model has two parts for easier printing. These two parts are glued together. I used the spiralize feature in ultimaker cura for the cone base. You do need an FDM printer to make the hairs. I used the Creality Ender 3. No supports are needed on either part. Rafts are recommended for adhesion.

Please let me know how it works for you!

Print it, thermoform it (only heat up the backside, or you might get a wobbly front surface) to the wearer’s head, paint it and I recommend you glue some cloth to the back, both to make it comfortable and to add friction. Our copy stayed in place when worn without any extra rubber bands, just by squeezing the head.

Animated Flame Pendant #WearableWednesday

3flames

A little fire for your heart! But there’s no actual flame here, no heat…instead, LEDs and a microcontroller make a virtual flame that dances like the real thing. (In fact it’s playing a tiny video loop of a real candle.)

We planned this animated flame simply as a piece of high-tech jewelry, but other uses are possible…a fire or lantern effect on cosplay props, a safer alternative to having candles on the table or as part of a holiday display, or a unique night light for finding your way to the bathroom at night.

It’s a simple circuit that can be built either as a pendant or as a tabletop piece. Fair warning though: the pendant variant is tricky…it’s a very tight space requiring ace soldering skills and some unconventional methods. As a tabletop piece, perhaps in a glass votive, or maybe you have a cosplay prop in mind, it’s much more forgiving.
