NEW GUIDE: An Introduction to RP2040 PIO with #CircuitPython #AdafruitLearningSystem @Adafruit @jeffepler

The RP2040 has a powerful I/O co-processor called PIO. Learn about how to use PIO together with CircuitPython in this new guide by Jeff Epler:

In this guide, you’ll learn how to write and use PIO programs from CircuitPython. The official datasheet (chapter 3), the book “Get Started with MicroPython on Raspberry Pi Pico” and pico-examples (pio folder) are helpful resources too, but CircuitPython sometimes deviates from the way that PIO is used in other environments like C or MicroPython.

The guide currently has 4 examples, from turning an LED on and off, to controlling a NeoPixel, and work with the Raspberry Pi Pico and the Feather RP2040! Check it out on the Adafruit Learn System.

More Freeform Electronic Sculpture from Eirik Brandal

A few days ago, I wrote about a gorgeous sound sculpture that Eirik Brandal had built for Look Mum No Computer’s synth and sound museum.

Celebrating Women’s History Month with the Poetry Foundation #WHM21 #WomensHistoryMonth

In celebration of Women’s History Month, The Poetry Foundation has put together this incredible collection of important works by (and about) some of the best and most important female voices in recent history. Just at first glance, I see poems by Grace Paley, Audre Lorde, Maya Angelou and many more. There are also educational resources like articles and podcasts, as well as archival recordings. Great stuff!

Lava Thomas’s Mugshot Portraits (2018-) depict ordinary women who organized the Montgomery Bus boycotts in the 1950s, carefully recreating their mugshot photos with Conté and graphite pencil. The lifesize drawings conjure the presence of women often erased from historical narratives, lingering on seemingly supplemental details like a missing glove or a down-turned gaze. The richness of the portraits expose the true function of mugshots: to reduce and dehumanize.

Eliasson has been working with Hollywood film animators on a range of digital art images including a cloud that looks and sounds like it rains and an animated puffin that moves and turns its head. He points out the key challenge is to make the objects look real within the home environment.

The spectacular floating library in Tokyo designed by Kengo Kuma #ArtTuesday

The enormous library of this museum has more than 50,000 books, via ThisisColossal

Although it boasts more than 50,000 books, the massive library at the heart of the Kadokawa Culture Museum (previously) isn’t just for bibliophiles or curious readers hoping to stumble upon a new title. Designed by renowned architect Kengo Kuma (previously), the towering venue is more accurately billed as a cultural gathering space than a traditional book collection, which Ryosuke Kosuge, who works as RK, recently documented a new series of photographs.

Just months after its opening, the Tokyo-area library already has hosted a variety of music and theater performances, with the staggered shelving and metal walkways serving as a backdrop. Many of the events—which you can see photographs of on Kadokawa’s Instagram—utilized the available projection mapping technology and embedded screens, creating immersive experiences that illuminate the largely wood-lined space with a candy-colored glow.
