A new book out in the microcontroller world: Programming the Pico: Learn Coding and Electronics with the Raspberry Pi Pico by Simon Monk. The book goes over programming the Raspberry Pi Pico with MicroPython (although it is referred to as Python).

This book will teach you Python programming and some basic electronics without assuming any prior knowledge of either subject. The book initially focusses on Python programming, building up a Morse Code example using the Raspberry Pi Pico’s built-in LED. Once you have mastered the basics of coding the Pico, the book will introduce electronics, showing you how to use sensors, switches, LEDs, servomotors and displays attached to your Pico.

USB pedals (or any other momentary switches) who emulates keyboard keypress or combination of keys. Handy to use with video edition software to pause/play without moving the hands away from the keyboard or mouse, it can also be used by videoconferencing software to mute quickly. There’s no need for special application to download initial firmware nor for keys setup (only a simple text editor needed). Works with almost any operating system, even with android devices using an OTG USB adapter.

This mostly 3D-printed cyberdeck features a 5-inch 800 × 480 touchscreen display, as well as the usual ports available through the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ that powers it. Quite how useful the screen’s portrait orientation will be for Sonic The Hedgehog is anyone’s guess, but if you’re playing any sort of top-down shooter, you’re laughing. The maker describes this project as a “video game emulator with some edge” – we think it’s pretty impressive for a project that began as an excuse to learn 3D design.
