Jim Henson’s Creature Shop Brings ‘My Neighbor Totoro’ Puppets to Life

Chu Totoro My Neighbor Tortoro

We love a good puppet and this pairing seems like a perfect match. A Studio Ghibli masterpiece is getting a stage treatment with the help of Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. Via Deadline:

Jim Henson’s Creature Shop animatronics and visual effects studio, based in Los Angeles, has teamed with Britain’s Royal Shakespeare Company to produce life-size puppets for the RSC’s stage adaptation of legendary Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki’s 1988 hand-drawn classic My Neighbour Totoro.

The RSC’s most ambitious project to date — even more so than the award-winning theater company’s original productions of musicals Les Miserables and Matilda the Musical — My Neighbour Totoro now has creatives working on it at bases in London, Stratford-Upon-Avon, Los Angeles and Tokyo.

Every Thursday is #3dthursday here at Adafruit! The DIY 3D printing community has passion and dedication for making solid objects from digital models. Recently, we have noticed electronics projects integrated with 3D printed enclosures, brackets, and sculptures, so each Thursday we celebrate and highlight these bold pioneers!

Have you considered building a 3D project around an Arduino or other microcontroller? How about printing a bracket to mount your Raspberry Pi to the back of your HD monitor? And don’t forget the countless LED projects that are possible when you are modeling your projects in 3D!

Touchdown: First Raspberry Pi-powered mini satellite finishes record flight #piday #raspberrypi @Raspberry_Pi

Electrical team testing gaspacs 800x600

Nice article from ZDnet on the Pi Zero’s adventure in space with The Get Away Special Passive Attitude Control Satellite [GASPCAS].

The first satellite to use Raspberry Pi Zero as its flight computer re-entered Earth’s atmosphere in May, completing a record 117 days in space.

GASPACS, sponsored by NASA, is the first CubeSat completely created by undergraduates. Members of Utah State University’s Get Away Special Team were responsible for the design of the mini-satellite, a cubic module that measures just 10 centimeters across and was built using off-the-shelf components.

Smart Hockey Table @Raspberry_Pi #RaspberryPi #PiDay

Fun project from Bram Bossuyt shared via Instructables.

So i decided to make one , so i can have it at home and if needed being able to easily transport it to somewhere else . The main goal is to have a Hockey Table that automatically keeps track of the score so you can continue playing without worrying if the score is still correct.

Smart Parking System using Raspberry Pi @Raspberry_Pi #PiDay #RaspberryPi

They say in California a New Ager invented a parking deity named Goddess Squat. The New Ager would change “Goddess Squat, full of grace / please find me a legal parking space!” over and over again until a parking space manifested. This could sometimes take hours, but it always worked, or so the legend goes. In the world of DIY electronics, Ajinkya Gokhale and Sakshi Bakal have come up with a whole different approach, in the form of a Raspberry Pi project. Here’s more from hakcster.io:

One of the most common problems today is a saturation of parking spaces. Vehicles continue to outnumber existing parking spaces, thus clogging roads. Incidences of violence over occupancy, deformed cars due to a space crunch, and overcharging for parking are some problems that result.

Most cities propose increasing parking spaces to combat the problem. Parks and vacant plots are used as potential parking spaces and multi-level facilities are being built, irrespective of the limited land space and resources. But their exists a silly problem. People enter the parking and then came to know that it’s full. Should n’t it automated ? Don’t you think, we should already know if the parking has space for us or not ? Yeah, isn’t it a good thought ? This project will help us show the availability of car slots to park the vehicle. This is implemented by using Raspberry Pi 3 B+ and IR Modules.

Local Text Generation on Raspberry Pi @Raspberry_Pi #PiDay #RaspberryPi

This project uses GPT-2 models to generate text on a Raspberry Pi locally. Here’s more from Michael Darby – 314Reactor via hackster.io:

The goal of this project is to run GPT-2 models for text generation on Raspberry Pi 4, with a nice GUI so text can easily be generated. As well as integration with other projects for enhancing a chatbot etc.

The project was started in May 2022, and I have been working on it since then. I am currently working with the Raspberry PI 4 Model B, but I will be working to get the Pi Zero 2 working as well. The project has been tested on Raspberry Pi OS Bullseye 64 bit.

See project!
