Smart Coffee Machine Pump Controlled by Raspberry Pi & HC-SR04 Ultrasonic Sensor and Cloud4RPi #piday #raspberrypi @Raspberry_Pi

via instructables

In theory, every time you go to the coffee machine for your morning cup, there’s only a one-in-twenty chance you’ll have to fill the water tank. In practice, however, it seems that the machine somehow finds a way to always put this chore on you. The more you want coffee, the more likely you are to get the dreaded “fill the water tank” message. My colleagues feel the same way about this. Being the nerds that we are, we decided to implement the technology that would put an end to this.

The Kinetic Courier: IOT Alerts Ring a Bell @Raspberry_Pi #PiDay #RaspberryPi

From thisoldgeek via hackster.io

The Kinetic Courier is an alert system for your IoT things. When something happens, it can ring a bell, wave a flag or light some NeoPixels. You can even connect it up to Alexa and IFTTT….

So… Can’t I get alerts by just sending notifications to my phone? Yes, yes you can.

This project is for someone who wants a fun alert system, different from phone notifications. It definitely gets your attention!

See project!

Morse Helmet* #piday #raspberrypi @Raspberry_Pi

via instructables

Morse Helmet* is an open source Do It Yourself project created by Belgian artist Mathieu Zurstrassen (RaiseStudio).
It consists of a device that sends custom light signals to the above.

But how do this hum…. Thing/Stuff works???

Here it is:

The user writes a message with the help of a touch screen display wired on a raspberry Pi.

When the user clicks the “SEND” button, his message is converted to Morse code and the custom made helmet sends the converted light signals through the top of his head!

UND’s Near-Space Bolloon Challange lets younger students experiment. They sent Pi powered sensers high into the atmosphere

Via UND today:

Hosted by the University of North Dakota-based North Dakota Space Grant Consortium (NDSGC), the ballooning challenge funds teams across the state to design, build and present experiments on campus before launching payloads miles above the planet’s surface.

Two balloons launched near Robin Hall on Nov. 23 reached as high as 86,000 feet before popping and sprouting bright pink parachutes to aid their stringed payloads’ descent. The two sets were found close to Gary, Minn. – more than an hour’s drive from the launch site.

Using a microcomputer called a Raspberry Pi, the team also had assembled a system of sensors capable of measuring temperatures across the assortment of test tubes.

“We’ll measure how cold each will get and whether it will freeze,” Brinegar said. “We’ll also test on the ground to see if at that temperature, it would freeze.”
