Atari CX10 CX40 Retro Joystick remake from Arcade Parts #3DThursday #3DPrinting

The Atari 2600 was my first games machine and so the CX40 was my first joystick and it survived long enough to be used with my ZX Spectrum and C64. I loved that hunk of plastic but I knew even then that it wasn’t the best joystick out there, so after 40 years and the purchase of a 3D printer, here is my remake of the CX40 with whatever quality level of arcade parts you want to house in it.

Customizable Vertical Drill Jig #3DThursday #3DPrinting

Customizable drill jig for vertical drilling. It can be used e.g. for forstner drills or with normal drills. As drilling guide you can use anything you want (or have). Use your existing drill bushing or use (multiple) bearings. Adjust the guidance_* parameters to your needs.

If you want to use bearings you should set guidance_wall_height > 0.

If you want to use anything with threads you have to download the thread library from GitHUB and place it in the same folder as the .scad file.

To determine the correct parameters for your thread use the file Thread.scad.

This thing has to be printed with supports, but you really don’t want to have supports in the thread. Use Cura’s support blocker for avoiding support in the thread (see picture).

The STL file uses the drill bushings from the Wolfcraft Dübelleiste 4650000 with these values for the thread:

guidance_thread_diameter = 16.5;
guidance_thread_pitch = 2;
guidance_thread_tooth_height = 1.7;

Silicon Zoo: artwork etched in silicon chips #Art #Microscopy

We know the A-Team is hiding out somewhere in the Los Angeles underground, but Mr. T has taken it to an extreme by shrinking himself and disappearing into an integrated circuit. He’s not alone, dozens of silicon chip dies have artwork etched on them in addition to the circuitry.

The Florida State University Molecular Expressions website provides a wide range of images of the things on chips, dubbed the Silicon Zoo.

Our search has led to a new collection of photomicrographs (photographs taken through a microscope) featuring many of the interesting silicon creatures and other doodling scribbled onto integrated circuits by engineers when they were designing computer chip masks. The tiny creatures are far too small to be seen with the naked eye, so we have provided high-magnification photomicrographs to share these mysterious wonders with our visitors. Engineers designing modern computer chips have a very rich sense of humor as you will discover when you visit our Silicon Creatures Gallery that we keep corralled in the Silicon Zoo. We hope you enjoy your adventure!

Hunting for a Raspberry Pi? This Learn Guide shows you how to build this project to help — it uses a Feather board over WiFi to check for in-stock alerts at Adafruit and then raises the alarm when there are RPi boards available!

This project uses a Feather ESP32-S2 TFT (hey, it would be pretty mean if we made this project using a Raspi!) to check the rpilocator.com Twitter feed, searching for new Tweets with the keyword “Adafruit”. When it finds one, that means there is most likely a fresh batch for sale. This info is displayed on the TFT (including which model of RPi it is), and even better, a bright red spinning light and siren goes off to get your attention!

Frida Kahlo’s Estate is Developing a TV Series Based On Her Life #ArtTuesday

Frida Kahlo’s estate and BTF Media have partnered to produce a TV series based on the famed artist’s life and works.

According to Mara Romeo Kahlo, the painter’s great-niece, “the series seeks to portray Frida as she has never been seen before. The goal is to present a unique perspective based on what her family knows about her and show how she really lived her life,” she stated.
