Thrust vectored (Almost) landing model rockets!

Adafruit customer Joe Barnard wrote in to share his really cool model rocket project with us. His website is impressive and has lots of information on his experiments in rocketry so be sure to check it out!

…Barnard Propulsion Systems is a platform intended to further knowledge and understanding in modern rocketry by experimentation. Right now, the primary goal is to achieve VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing) of a model rocket with fixed thrust, solid propellant motors.

The challenge is difficult, but through small advances in stabilization, coding, and lots of trial and error, bit by bit it can be accomplished.

Bomb Squad Academy – A puzzle game about electronics!

Thanks to Jean for writing in to share his awesome video game, Bomb Squad Academy. Check out more here!

Save the world one wire at a time with Bomb Squad Academy, a puzzle game where you have to defuse bombs under a time constraint.

Analyze the way the electronic boards function and identify how to disable the detonator. Be careful though, cutting the wrong wire or flipping the wrong switch might just trigger the bomb.

As you progress through the game, you will be faced with increasingly challenging circuits that will test your ability to work through logic puzzles quickly. Identify the components, understand the connections and learn what makes the circuit work. Do it fast enough and you might just make it through.

Good luck!

Nursery Robot Connected to CheerLights

Thanks to Hans for sending in this tip! Hans writes:

I found a nightlight on Amazon that could be controlled using an IR remote control. You can change the color of the robot’s glow. I wanted to synchronize the color to the CheerLights color, so I built an Internet IR transmitter with a Particle Photon.

Check out the project on Nursery Hacks, read more about CheerLights on GitHub and CheerLights.com and see more from Hans Scharler on YouTube.

Nicolas Bruno’s Photographs are Inspired by Sleep-Paralysis

NewImage

Nicolas Bruno spoke with io9 about his incredible series Between Realms:

Conceptual photographer Nicolas Bruno has suffered from sleep paralysis since he was 15. In confronting the visions, and feelings of fear and helplessness, that can accompany this phenomenon, Bruno has discovered that transposing the notes from his sleep-paralysis journal to his photoshoots provides him a powerful therapeutic outlet.
