Artist David Fay Creates a SuperPlasTic Sculpture and a Steampunk Octopus

Artist David Fay created a SuperPlasTic Sculpture and a Steampunk Octopus using our very own Adafruit HalloWing M0 Express. We love the creativity and craftsmanship at work here!

David shared some project details with us directly:

My name is David Fay and I teamed up with SuperPlastic to
create a one of a kind figure for their SuperPlastic Area15

@superplastic meets @sloninaartspace! This incredible art show is opening
Oct 12 at Slonina ARTSpace, to celebrate the upcoming opening of a new
interactive #Superplastic attraction coming to @area15official this Fall.

You will notice that I used your Halowing to create the awesome eye effect
for my super plastic action figure…
Well the folks at SLoNiNa ArtSpAcE and SuperPlastic have given me race
reviews on my submission for the amazing upcoming event!
This is not the only piece I have created with the amazing adafruit eyes. I
have Austin used them in my obsolete sculptures I create for the Venetian
hotel and casino which is a little typewriter that is writing its final
story and crying tears of ink as it has become obsolete. I also recently
used the eyes for a steampunk style octopus. I will share links to those
videos as well. Thanks Adafruit for really giving me that lil extra when it comes to
creating really awesome and fun art!

If you want to try out HSTX to drive an HDMI monitor or display, this dongle is what you need to take HSTX out and give you a connector with proper level shifting and signal conditioning. Simply connect a 22 pin FPC cable between the Feather RP2350 and Adafruit RP2350 22-pin FPC HSTX to DVI Adapter for HDMI Displays then load DVI output code. In CircuitPython, we have support for 320×240 pixels at 16-bit color, which gets pixel doubled to 640×480. Or, if you’re willing to cut some colorspace to save RAM, you can get true 640×480 resolution at 4 / 8 bit color, or 1 / 2 bit grayscale.

A Sound Box for Star Trek: Voyager @Raspberry_Pi #PiDay #RaspberryPi

Scale models are great. And they’re even better with sound effects! Michael Horne used a Raspberry Pi to create a Star Trek sound box to augment a scale model of the USS Voyager. Here’s more from Raspberry Pi Pod:

A friend of mine volunteers for a non-profit organization called Models for Heroes which aims to give Armed Forces veterans a focus for their free time by helping them get into scale modelling. He also builds his own scale models and this time it’s a model of the USS Voyager from Star Trek. He asked for some help to give the project an extra “zing” by providing sound effects. I did some research and, to start with, I was going to use the Raspberry Pi Pico to do it. However, I wanted really good sound this time. My last project for Steff was to provide effects for a Lancaster Bomber model. This time, it was simpler but I wanted something that wouldn’t sound too strained when playing the Voyager main theme.

A classic over-the-air television simulator with Raspberry Pi and Python

FieldStation42 is an on the air (OTA) television simulator, showing several “channels” of classic programming complete with commercials inserted. Videos are served with a Raspberry Pi which uses Python.

“I started this project after noting how my enthusiasm and interest in television had changed over time. With a million streaming options, why was I bored with it all? Something feels heartless about it all and it made me wonder if the experience of TV had been better when I was a kid in the late 1970’s and 80s.”

“I decided to try and recreate the experience I had with TV back in the day. While my personal experiment focuses on my own experience in the late 70’s and early 80s, the hardware/software described in this project can easily extend to any era of OTA broadcast television.”
