How to Add Velvet Fabric Details with Wax-Based Chalk

Unless you can find perfectly patterned and textured fabrics for your costumes, you’re going to have to come up with a way to do it yourself. If you’re making something like Doctor Strange’s cloak of levitation, for example, you have to replicate the accessory’s checkerboard pattern. Jedimanda found herself in that position and she came up with a way to add the burnout details onto velvet fabric using wax-based chalk. She says:

I used my wax based chalk to draw out the pattern and then hit it with my iron plus stream and BEHOLD it left behind a subtle but different look to the velvet! (Please use a press cloth in between the velvet and iron) HOW COOL!
