What to Wear When You Love GIFs #WearableWednesday #wearabletech #DIY #Arduino #tech

LED Matrix Hat with Gifs

This is a great hat hack for conventions, or in the case of maker dd0626, for inspiring a FIRST Robotics team (woot!). Spotted on Hackaday, this design made from shipping foam, a pillowcase and an old t-shirt actually slips over the hat, so you can go with or without bling. The animation is made up of four WS2812 matrices diffused with sheer black fabric connected to a Teensy 3.6. Of course the GIFs look amazing on the hat and make great eye candy for robotic competitions, especially when the theme is 8-bit gaming.

So far there has been some interest in a tutorial for this project, but if you really want one you should make sure you check out dd0626 on imgur and let him know. You can get an idea of how to make a display hat of your own by checking out our learning guide for the Guggenhat. If you have some LED strip laying around, this could be the perfect wearable project that turns you into a walking marquee. Make sure you send us a video of your hat (although robot pics are also welcome).
