From Coffee Filter to Safety Mask, in a Hurry #WearableWednesday #Coffee #MakerBusiness

Melitta Pivots From Coffee Filters to Safety Masks in a Hurry The New York Times

I’ve considered fashioning my own mask using some extra coffee filters. Now the iconic pour-over brand is shifting gears to produce PPE!

Via the New York Times:

At Melitta, the company that pioneered the paper coffee filter, inspiration was close at hand.

“The ergonomics of the thing, the fact that the filter fits exactly over mouth, nose and chin is so unbelievable that you might call it a gift from heaven,” Katharina Roehrig, a managing director at Melitta, which is based in a small city in northwestern Germany

From the Melitta press release:

The Melitta Group is switching parts of its production operations in a contribution to the supply of urgently needed face masks. In the production facility for Melitta® coffee filters in Minden, face masks are now being manufactured in large quantities.
