Rafael Lozano-Hemmer Takes Your Pulse #ArtTuesday

Rafael Lozano Hemmer Pace 01

Put this on your NYC fall todo list. Rafael Lozano-Hemmer’s Common Measures is on view at the Pace Gallery from September 9 through October 22. The largest work in the exhibition is Pulse Topology. It is an immersive light experience that pulses to the rythym of visitors’ heart beats. Among the 3,000 lights there are 3 pulse sensors that viewers are encouraged to interact with.

More from Design Milk:

As the work senses and projects your pulse, it is also recording you. When you take your hand away, your heartbeat remains on one bulb, joining the 2,999 previous heartbeats of everyone who experienced the artwork before you. You do not exist eternally however, as each new recorded pulse replaces the oldest on view, constantly cycling and refreshing with every new visitor.
