Michael Bloomberg Gives $50 Million to Museum of Science, Boston #makereducation

Michael Bloomberg shows support for science education with a large donation to the Museum of Science, Boston.

In addition, the gift will go toward the education center’s computer and food-science programs. In a telephone interview Mr. Bloomberg said that he hoped these programs could provide an example to be copied elsewhere. The museum, he added, is not just “for Boston and the surrounding areas.”

“Museums look at each other and imitate what works,” he said.

Asked about the importance of science literacy, Mr. Bloomberg pointed to the election season as an example. “We are defunding research, and it’s a catastrophe for America,” he said. If people understand the science of what’s at stake, he added, they can hold politicians accountable for their decisions. “Climate change is maybe the ultimate example of that,” he said.
