Wondering how the Great Highland bagpipe players would feel about this project demo from YouTube user XenonJohn.
My guess? Impressed!
Bagpipe chanter played by robot “fingers”. Now includes gracenotes and doubles (the fiddly bits before each main note). These accentuate the main notes as the air flow is constant in pipes like this. Fingers/hands are 3D printed, based on Raptor-Reloaded open source prosthetic hand. Lots of custom 3D printed parts, including neat thumb mechanism. Fingers tensioned downwards by springs to press on the holes. They are then lifted by solenoids controlled by an Arduino Mega 2560 via a bank of opto-isolated MOSFETS.
