Via GitHub, TinajaLabs has posted a simple Ansible role to configure a GPS based NTP Server which can deliver a time signal to a network that is not connected to the internet.
And you wouldn’t believe how having the accurate time can be important when no Internet connection is around.
The build uses a Raspberry Pi and time signals derived from a connected GPS device.
Designed and tested with Adafruit parts:
- Raspberry Pi 3 Model B V1.2 running minimal version of Raspbian Stretch.
- Adafruit Ultimate GPS Breakout V3 board
Author Chris Jefferies posts the wiring and details on the software used. ALso included is a good set of reference materials about Ansible, NTP, and GPS with the Pi.

Adafruit has excellent support for its GPS devices including documentation and open source software. See the full line here and this ultimate guide to GPS.
