The GIF Art of Thora Maer #ArtTuesday

Above: energy neutral candy machine by Lisette Berndt (aka Thoka Maer).

Lisette Brendt, aka Thoka Maer, tells charming stories with her animated GIFs. Here’s more from the artist on Huffington Post:

For me, each “biggie” (thats [what] I call them) has a little story. The fact that it comes without words or a title makes it easy to understand and interpret by every person of every age in every country. And this is what I like most right now. For example, the idea behind the one with the guy and the heads on sticks was to illustrate the “Politische Gesichtslosigkeit” (which is German and hard to translate. It means you change your mind, claims, testimonials as it is required, especially in a political context. Verbatim would mean “facelessness”.) But the GIF popped up on quite some Jasmine Revolution blogs. I guess because the heads had some similarities with Arabic dictator faces.
