Customizable Savonius wind rotor #3Dprinting #3DThursday

Customizable Savonius wind rotor by Kappie Thingiverse

Kappie shared this project on Thingiverse!

A customizable 2-blade Savonius type wind rotor.

The parameters in the .scad file can be changed to generate the rotor you want.
The .scad file for the bearing housing and cover can be found here https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4735770

I intended to use a M8 threaded rod to assemble the rotor. Unfortunately the hardware stores are closed during the current lockdown so I printed the shaft of the rotor slightly smaller and screwed in a bolt. Tapping in a thread will make that easier, but you can also screw in a short bolt.

The .stl files can be used with a 608 bearing and M8 threaded bolt.

Every Thursday is #3dthursday here at Adafruit! The DIY 3D printing community has passion and dedication for making solid objects from digital models. Recently, we have noticed electronics projects integrated with 3D printed enclosures, brackets, and sculptures, so each Thursday we celebrate and highlight these bold pioneers!

Have you considered building a 3D project around an Arduino or other microcontroller? How about printing a bracket to mount your Raspberry Pi to the back of your HD monitor? And don’t forget the countless LED projects that are possible when you are modeling your projects in 3D!
