thisculpturedoesntexist is an Instagram account from Matteo Rattini that creates contemporary sculptures created by a neural network based on the Instagram algorithm’s suggestions. From This Sculpture Doesn’t Exist:These non-existent sculptures are essentially the product of an interaction between two algorithms (the one managing Instagram’s feed and the neural network), a self-reflection of the Digital that question itself through its own tools and methods. The network is here used to recreate and display the effects of the content standardization operated by the algorithm’s suggestion in an attempt to reflect on the problematic existence of artworks within social networks and how their consumption and circulation, dictated by cold calculations whose only relevant parameter is profit, can influence or distort the perception of art in a viewer/user.
