Moana Maui Costume is Worthy of a Demigod

Last time we checked in with Philip Odango, a.k.a. Canvas Cosplay, he was dressed as Doctor Strange. And now? He’s a demigod. He cosplayed as Maui from Moana for KatsuCon, and he positively nailed it. He made the entire costume from scratch from the tattoos (he inked them by hand onto stretch fabric — there’s a not insignificant amount of them), to crafting the leaf skirt, to making Maui’s fish hook. The latter is a key prop for the character, so Odango went all out. It was his first ever foam prop and he used Kamui Cosplay’s expanding foam tutorial to cover a base for the hook. He says:

Started with cardboard and support pieces, then used expanding foam. Spent this morning carving it out. Wrapped it in packaging tape. Next steps: paper mache, seal in rubber, paint, add carving art, final seal, add rope.
