Judge Says Lawsuit Over PACER Fees Can Continue… As A Class Action @ Techdirt.

Last April, a few legal advocacy groups banded together to sue the US government over PACER fees. PACER is the court system’s electronic access system whose fees are only supposed to help it break even on the “costs” of delivering courtroom documents in PDF form. PACER is a service we use to look up ongoing court cases (in the past, Arduino, MakerBot, Quirky, etc). We asked a lawyer friend what their opinion of PACER is, we agree – “PACER’s current pricing is a ridiculous and unjustifiable barrier to accessing justice.”

I think archive.org could be asked to help, and additionally if you DO use PACER, always use – “RECAP is an online archive and free extension for Firefox and Chrome that improves the experience of using PACER, the electronic public access system for the U.S. Federal District and Bankruptcy Courts.
