I created this to show the parts of an insect for educational programs. The goal is for kids to notice that insects have three parts: the head, thorax, and abdomen and 6 legs and also to notice other parts such as the wings (insects can have 2 or 4), antennae, compound eyes, and mouthpart.
Eventually I want to scale it up and paint it so it can be used for large groups of students. I’ve had to sand down some of the pegs with fine sand paper a bit so they’re not too tight. If I ever get a chance to scale it up I’d like to put a magnet at the bottom of each hole so the parts ‘lock’ in a bit better. Work in progress!
