Miez Cosplay, a.k.a. Sandra, made magic happen in real life by making a flame blade from Pathfinder: The Snows of Summer. She crafted the beautiful, fiery sword by using Worbla’s BlackArt for the hilt and TranspaArt for the blades. She shaped the TranspaArt into flame shapes over the blade of a wooden sword and dyed them using iDye Poly in yellow, orange, and red. To get the full glowing, burning look, Miez used electronics tucked away into the hilt. She explains how she incorporated an Arduino board and LEDs into the sword:
The board is a arduino nano, the LED type is calles ws2812b. These are color changing LEDs, so you can program them to light up any color you want ( I think). They come in different densities, mine have 144 LEDs per meter.
My cousin helped me with this because my knowledge about electronics is very basic. The programming we found online and simply had to change the amount of LEDs and the brightness. I glued the stripe to a piece of acrylic glass and wrapped it with organza for light diffusion.
