This Crazy Atari Hat Will Allow You to Be Connected #WearableWednesday #wearabletech #gaming #Bladerunner2049

Atari Speakerhat

I don’t know about you, but I find earbuds to be downright uncomfortable, even when I get the smaller size. So, I have to admit that I’m excited by this ultimate geek hat by Atari that I found on Engadget. This is no ordinary baseball cap, as it has speakers and a mic in the brim, along with bluetooth capability. That means you can chat it up with your friends without wearing something on your ears. This reminds me of a friend that used to conceal her Google Glass with a baseball cap so as not to attract attention. Of course people will certainly notice you talking to yourself, but that is to be expected nowadays. According to Engadget the bluetooth allows for another benefit.

Atari also promises “a fundamentally new social audio experience” with Multiplayer Mode, which allows multiple users to listen to a single audio stream via Bluetooth.

The most interesting part of the hat for me is the speakers, because they look so thin. Some new startups are offering piezoelectric film speakers, so I’m curious if this material has made it into wearables. As for sound quality, the partner for the project Audiowear is boasting CSR/Qualcomm® cVc™ audio technology, 5-band EQ and Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) for their typical Speakerhats. It’s not clear if the same quality will be used for the Atari version, but if so, it could lead to some very clear audio on the fly. The best tidbit about the hat is that there will be a special version for Bladerunner 2049. Atari is definitely making a comeback between its wearables and its upcoming Ataribox. You may also be able to get your hands on a hat beta testing kit at Atari Life. Did you know Bluetooth can also be used for fun things like LED animations on wearables?
