MIT’s latest robot politely weaves through crowds

We see lots of work going on regarding self driving automobiles navigating traffic on city streets and highways but what about autonomous vehicles navigating pedestrian traffic? This latest robot from MIT attempts to follow social norms for navigating crowded pedestrian areas. We wonder if this also has applications for self driving wheelchairs.

We’re still trying to get robots to walk through difficult terrain (or gallop like ostriches), but sooner or later they’ll need to master another important skill: Not getting in our way. MIT researchers have built a wheeled ‘bot that can safely navigate through crowds of people.

Read all about it here.
