Along with all those Maker Faire Tweets I remember getting a video of what appeared to be a furry watch. I knew it was the work of CaitlinsDad because it had all the right elements—craft appeal, humor, intrigue and LEDs. The message about the piece was rather cryptic:
The fur and feeding schedule suggested werewolves, and what better piece of wearable tech to invent for them than a moon phase watch. I tracked CaitlinsDad down for some details for this project, and he did mention paper mache covering an Adafruit Circuit Playground. As for the “wax on/off”, that is not only moon speak, but a line from a famous movie which I will not disclose. One of my favorite things about CaitlinsDad is that he is not only unpredictable, but he also infuses pop culture whenever possible into his projects! As you might guess, the moon phases do not actually work, however, you could take this project to a Flora microcontroller with a GPS module and Neopixel ring if you want true time. On the other hand, you could just stick with the simplicity of the Circuit Playground with its fun sounds and lights that use imagination for fuel. This is a fun project that is perfect for the Howloweeners in your family. Have fun bringing ideas alive with the microcontroller that is packed with sensors and easy to learn.
