Students at Penn high school in Mishawaka Indiana who are part of robotics team 135 have not only taken up assistive technology for the disabled as one of their prime focuses, they are actively recruiting other makers and stem and robotics teams to the cause. They’ve launched a new initiative and website titled “Mission to Engineer”. In partnership with ATmakers.org. They not only are documenting and publicizing their own efforts but encouraging and recruiting other such groups to get involved in direct support of creating assistive technology for disabled people. This video explains their project.
In addition to their famous quote “Engineering Ella” program where they are assisting a young girl with Spinal Muscular Atrophy to driver power chair, other projects include a walker capable of holding a communication device for a young boy, as well as a 3D printed prosthetic arm for a young girl.
