The Adafruit Artist Spotlight is a new Q&A feature from the Adafruit music team that highlights some of the wonderful music made by creative and talented Adafruit staff. We’re kicking off this this series with a post from Bartlebeats, someone whose music you will almost certainly have heard if you’re subscribed to the Adafruit YouTube and Instagram accounts or the Adabox series. You may even have picked up a copy of Bartlebeats’ ‘Frequency‘ vinyl that Adafruit released a couple of years back!
In this feature you’ll get a chance to hear a little of their music and learn about what they do here at Adafruit. We’re excited to continue shining a light on the cool and exciting stuff that our friends and colleagues are working on.
What team(s) are you on?
Operations, but over the years I have worked in gathering, shipping, storage, receiving, facilities, and QA.
I write for the maker business daily newsletter from time to time, and I write a lot of the music that is used in Adafruit videos!
How long have you been at adafruit?
Six and a bit years.
Tell us a bit about your project!
At the moment, this project is just me and my computer. I work mostly in Logic, and learned pretty much everything I know from watching sflogicninja YouTube videos over the years.
I have been assembling a library of samples from around the Adafruit factory, and I like to mess around with those a lot. I also have a sample of Limor saying “new” that I use all the time. You may notice it if you watch our #manufacturingmonday posts on Instagram! Newnewnewnewnewnewnewnewnewnew
Other than that I use a lot of logic soft synths, which not everyone loves, but they are a funny creative constraint and have ultimately kept the project alive through dozens of apartments, work spaces, and laptops.
That said, I am excited to start working with more hardware, and am hoping to assemble a arsenal of DIY synths/noise making things here at Adafruit, and am particularly excited about what we can get in to with Circuit Playground.
Generally, I work on this stuff to expand our music library with tracks for the video team to use.
Sometimes a specific request will come in from the team for a video series or a product video. Those are super fun and allow me to be more deliberate with scheduling time to get them done.
I started creating music for Adafruit videos in 2012 after I joined the team, and then in 2014 Adafruit put out an album of my music called Frequency.
Any recent releases or upcoming performances?
Most recently, I put together some music specifically for the launch AdaBox004, which was a fun race against time.
Other than that you can expect to find new music and strange works-in-process on the Adafruit Instagram, Ask an Engineer, and more!
