The Finished Fantasia Centaur Costume

Just over a week ago, we shared a preliminary look at cosplayer Ginny Di‘s centaur costume from Fantasia. She finished the build in time for Denver Comic Con and it moves smoothly and looks like it’s out of the animated Disney film. In build notes she says:

— HOW IT’S MADE: The body has a PVC skeleton with jointed legs that swing freely at the hip, knee, and ankle (or whatever the horse equivalents of those things are.) The body shape was then created with chicken wire, and then I covered that in spray-on insulation foam, which I carved down. Then came a layer of quilt batting, and finally the “fur,” which is a stretch faux suede. The thighs are stuffed, like a plush toy. The hooves are heat molded PVC.
My dad helped me a ton on this — we designed, created, and adjusted it together over the course of about four weeks.
— HOW IT GOES ON: It’s very simple to take on and off — the fishing line hooks at the knee with a jewelry clasp on each leg, and then the fur waistband is just a belt with a buckle. I can have the whole back half off in 10 seconds (and thank god, because it goes from “this is fine” to “holy shit, get this off my body” pretty darn fast.)
