Microsoft Azure IoT Starter Kit w/ Adafruit Feather HUZZAH: In collaboration with Microsoft, Adafruit’s releasing IoT Starter Kits with boards, sensors, and components that are ‘Azure Certified for IoT.’

Azure is Microsoft’s cloud solution for IoT projects that’s a comprehensive and flexible program from the Microsoft team that they’re extending into the open source hardware world. This starter kit includes a pre-soldered Adafruit Feather HUZZAH with ESP8266 WiFi and some sensors and components to get you started on your IoT journey.

Feather is a development board from Adafruit that, like its namesake, is thin, light and lets you fly. We designed Feather to be a new standard for portable microcontroller cores.

This starter kit contains the Adafruit Feather HUZZAH ESP8266 – our take on an ‘all-in-one’ ESP8266 WiFi development board with built in USB and battery charging. Its an ESP8266 WiFi module with all the extras you need, ready to rock!

At the Feather HUZZAH’s heart is an ESP8266 WiFi microcontroller clocked at 80 MHz and at 3.3V logic. This microcontroller contains a Tensilica chip core as well as a full WiFi stack. You can program the microcontroller using the Arduino IDE for an easy-to-run Internet of Things core. We wired up a USB-Serial chip that an upload code at a blistering 921600 baud for fast development time. It also has auto-reset so no noodling with pins and reset button pressings. (read more)

Arrow Presents: Advanced Internet of Things Pack – Back to School with LadyAda: So maybe it’s not “back to school” season any more – but here at Adafruit, we like to think that it’s always a good time to learn something new, which we guess means that everywhere we go is a proverbial school that we’re perpetually going back to.

To celebrate the continual season, we partnered with our good friends at Arrow Electronics to release custom packs of goodies called Arrow Presents: Back to School with LadyAda. This pack’s designed for more advanced users.

For the student who’s mastered Arduino and soldering and is ready to take on more! This pack contains everything you need to get started in the world of the ‘Internet of Things.’ Centered around the Feather HUZZAH – our flagship IoT board based on the ESP8266 WiFi-enabled chip – this pack contains sensors, components, servos, and more. Huzzah! Adafruit.io Internet of Things Feather ESP8266 – WiFi Starter Kit: OK you’ve signed up for Adafruit.io and you’re ready to build something cool and Internet-connected. All you need is this starter kit which will get you going with lots of parts that go very well with our service and are the most common sensors and actuators you may want. Sense light, motion, humidity, temperature, and more, then send it for storage on Adafruit.io! Light up LEDs, make noise, and move a motor when a trigger is detected.

This pack is designed for people who want to use the new low-cost Adafruit Feather HUZZAH with ESP8266 WiFi microcontroller and are comfortable with that platform to explore IoT. A Feather HUZZAH development board is included. An Arduino or other microcontroller is not required.

This pack DOES NOT include a standard USB micro-B cable (use any cable you have as long as its sync+charge not ‘charge only’), a solderless breadboard, or a Lipoly battery (take your project on the go!) – you will need a USB cable to program and debug your HUZZAH & either USB or a Lipoly battery to power the Feather HUZZAH. You may also want a full size breadboard and some prototyping wires. Some soldering is required to assemble the Feather HUZZAH ESP8266 and HDC1008 sensor. (read more)
