Powered by a Pro Trinket, DS3231 RTC, and a jumble of NeoPixels, Dr. D-Flo made this awesome word clock! (Video below) The face of the clock was carved out of anodized aluminum on an Inventables X-Carve. And a really clever design idea was to use a sheet of single-sided copper as the NeoPixels circuit board – also built with X-Carve – which not only reduces wire clutter but also allowed for quick continuity testing along the way and frankly looks great (image below – even though you don’t see that in the actual functioning clock, it’s great to know that design is there!).
All the files and code are linked from Dr. D-Flo’s website.
It was only a matter of time before Dr. D-Flo built another clock out of NeoPixel LEDs. He stumbled upon Adafruit’s word clock project. While the concept was cool, Dr. D-Flo felt like the design lacked style. By nature a word clock is not practical, so it needs to look classy. Therefore, Dr. D-Flo decided to make his clock with an anodized aluminum face. He did not stop at one but ended up building 5 clocks!
(BTW we’re totally okay with thinking our own word clock isn’t classy, or rather ‘lacks style’ – to each their own! And thanks for sharing your designs Dr. D-Flo!)
