Interwoven’s Project: R61, 3D Waves of Light #WearableWednesday

Project R:61 combines materials research, making and form finding, while focusing on the diverse applications of textiles, ranging from clothing to products and architecture.

Whether communicative, interactive, or performative, products that use technology to include light, movement, scent and transformation are mesmerizing. First prototype “3D Waves of Light” is a sculptural sensory enabled light-embedded knitted fabric. Possible uses include wall surfaces, acoustical tiles, automotive interiors, lighting effects for health and well-being, and smart clothing. We also envision spatial design installations which are engaging and playful.

The knitted materials we are creating in collaboration with Versalume are focusing on incorporating Corning® Fibrance® Light-Diffusing Fiber and sensing technology into fabric constructions using a computerized knitting process with new textures, forms and applications.
