You are probably looking very closely at the video and wondering if that is Tetris on that tiny screen. Those little graphics are indeed from the game, because maker Bytewerk wanted to create earrings for his girlfriend that would embody her fave thing. An ATTiny85 microcontroller controls the OLED screen while a rechargeable coin cell provides the power. The gift went over quite well, except for a minor glitch.
One earring weighs about 9 grams, which is acceptable for most women. Unfortunately my girl has a low tolerance for heavy earrings and can only wear them for an hour. She likes it, though.
One of the main issues Bytewerk hopes to address next, according to his Github, is weight. However, I’m not sure how much lighter this is going to be able to go. Perhaps a tiny LiPoly battery could be fixed on the back with adhesive velcro to replace the current battery setup. I’m not sure how much this would help with weight, but the battery’s rectangular shape would complement the piece. If weight is still a problem I would convert this to a pin, barrette or necklace. I’m reminded of the challenge of working in small spaces with the OLED Cameo Necklace. In that project I ended up hiding the LiPoly in the ribbon.
