The Openly Published Environmental Sensing Lab recently had
our paper published the open source journal Frontiers section. We are
working on the final typesetting and the whole article will be published in
the coming weeks.The hardware we used was almost entirely purchased from Adafruit development
boards with a few tweaks of our own. Once the paper is officially published
we love to give your team its due to credit for the development of the
hardware beyond the in-text references and bibliography and get the word out
of cool project being done using your product.

In Earth science, we must often collect data from sensors installed in remote locations. Retrieving and storing these data can be challenging. Present options include proprietary commercial dataloggers, communication devices, and protocols with rigid software and data structures that may require ongoing expenses. While there are open-source solutions that include telemetry, such as EnviroDIY’s Mayfly, none presently generate real-time, remotely accessible workbooks. The OPEnS Lab developed the OPEnS Hub, a new approach to using low-power, open-source hardware and software to achieve real-time data logging from the field to the web.
