If you have a fully manual 35mm film camera with a fixed lens, there are only two adjustments you can make: shutter speed (how long the film receives light) and aperture (the size of the lens opening). With those two variables, you can take great photographs. The possibilities for framing and subject matter are endless, but on a mechanical level there are only two things to adjust. Exploring the images that those two variables can create would take a lifetime.
And imagine contemporary digital cameras! Those things have more buttons than the Millennium Falcon. What to do? In April, Nikon is offering its entire curriculum of photography classes for free.
Each class is taught by a professional photographer and provides in-depth lessons to help you get better at taking photos. Some courses cover Nikon-specific products, but many of them teach you the fundamentals of photography, such as a course that teaches you how to photograph your children or pets or the basics of making a music video. So even if you don’t own a Nikon camera, many of these classes might still be worth a watch.
