In Stay Home we re-highlight some original Adafruit blog content to help keep you entertained while so many of us are working remotely or otherwise keeping indoors. Thus far we’ve highlighted Q&As with our favourite MusicMakers and TasteMakers and even talked a little Presidential history.
Today we’re digging off a couple of features from Halloween 2017 in hopes of giving you a couple of spooky things for you to add your watchlist.
First up we talked about Ten Horror Films that Mix Scares with Science:
Halloween Viewing: Ten Horror Films that Mix Scares with Science
We featured classics like Alien and The Thing alongside cult favourites such as Event Horizon and Re-Animator alongside lesser known favourites like Mindwarp and Crash and Burn. There’s plenty of weird science, space peril, gene hacking, malicious machines to be found in here from genre masters like John Carpenter, David Cronenberg, Stuart Gordon, Charles Band, Ridley Scott and others. I’m so so glad that society is coming around to Event Horizon.
The second part of our 2017 Halloween Viewing feature focused on Horror films set in Adafruit’s home of New York:
Here we looked into Manhattan Mayhem with Basket Case, Maniac Cop and The Driller Killer, Staten Island suspicions in Sisters, Brooklyn brutality in Zombie Flesh Eaters, The Sentinel and well beyond. These eight unique filks are brought to us from a mix of local and tri-state heroes like Abel Ferrara, William Lustig and Brian De Palma, as well as international filmmakers such as Dario Argento, Lucio Fulci and Ryƻhei Kitamura.
I really wish I had been more familiar with the work of Larry Fessenden and Glass Eye Pix because films like Habit, The Wendigo, Darling and Depraved could easily have made the NY list. Depraved (“Frankenstein in a Brooklyn Loft”) could have made the Science list too!
As ever, I hope you find something new here to entertain you over what can feel like some pretty long days. Until next time, Stay Home.
